Set within an existing house and its garden, Sharnam Gardens reimagines the landscape as a more functional and thoughtfully curated nature experience — one that supports everyday use as well as small gatherings and events. The design began with a close reading of the site: mapping layers of vegetation, patterns of light and shadow, bird habitats, and human movement.
A red terrazzo plinth acts as a subtle yet defined platform within the garden. Light bamboo pergolas create shaded pockets for informal seating while remaining porous enough for existing greenery to weave through and grow. This interplay allows the built and natural elements to coexist rather than compete.
The plinth transforms into curbs along its edges, integrating small niches for bird food and water. These gestures extend the garden's role beyond human occupation, nurturing a shared habitat that invites both people and wildlife into a cohesive, lived-in landscape.
